Some people leave their estate to a trust. The trust then distributes the estate to the decedent’s heirs. If giving the estate to a trust before transferring it to the heirs sounds unnecessary or overly complicated that’s because it usually is. It also increases the cost of administering the estate and the number of problems that can arise during the process.
