Thinking about filing a lawsuit? Before you do, keep a few things in mind.

First, be ready for the defendant’s counter claims. Whenever you sue someone, they have the opportunity to raise their own claims against you.

Second, consider the expense of litigation. This includes court costs, legal fees, expert witnesses, etc.

Finally, keep in mind that there is a big difference between winning a judgment at court and getting paid by the defendant. If the defendant has no income and no assets, then your judgment is essentially worthless.
