An estate typically sells real estate in one of two ways. First, if the homeowner died with a will, the will often appoints a personal representative and gives that person authority to sell real estate without court supervision. Second, when a homeowner dies without a will, a personal representative needs to be appointed by the court. That person then needs to get a “license” from the court permitting the home sale.
