The Court Square hotel building is an eyesore.

It’s located beside Springfield’s housing and superior courts.

It’s also directly across from the casino’s main entrance.

The building is riddled with asbestos, lead, and rodents.

(I once saw a large rat scurry in front of me and dart into the building through a crack in the hotel’s wall.)

Thankfully, plans are underway to renovate Court Square.

According to masslive.com, two real estate investors plan to purchase the property from the city and make a number of improvements.

Plans call for 11,000 square feet of retail space on the first floor, 11,000 square feet of office space on the second floor and 44 one-bedroom apartments each at about 730 square feet and 16 two-bedroom apartments at about 930 square feet each on the third through sixth floors.

The renovation would take about three years to complete.

And the clean-up costs alone would be about $2 million.
