Yesterday a Pittsfield man was arraigned in Westfield Distirct Court for operating under the influence of alcohol (3rd offense).
According to the police report, which is attached below, a concerned motorist called the Russell police on Friday evening around 7pm to report an impaired driver.
The witness told police that she observed the defendant
going all over the road and almost struck the guardrail multiple times before turning into [a] rest area.
The witness also reported that the driver got out of his car appearing “heavily intoxicated” and fell over multiple times.
The police chief and a patrolman responded to the scene. When they encountered the man and asked his name he allegedly responded “I’m not fucking telling you. I’m not going to play this game.”
When asked if he had been drinking, the suspect replied “I drank tonight, all of it.”
He was placed under arrest and police proceeded to search his car. They uncovered dozens of Smirnoff and Fireball nips—some empty and others unopened.
The man allegedly refused the field sobriety test and the breath test. His bail was set at $540, which went unpaid, and he was held at the Hampden County Jail until his arraignment.

On Friday evening around 7:30pm, while officers were hosting Santa at the police station, the Russell Montgomery Police Department was dispatched to an erratic operator call on Huntington Road (Rt. 20) in Russell . Responding officers arrived in the area and found the vehicle in question. The operator appeared to be heavily impaired and told officers he was trying to get back to Pittsfield. Upon interacting further with the operator, he challenged officers to fight. Backup responded and the operator was taken into custody. The male from Pittsfield was charged with 3rd offense OUI, and several other charges. He was arraigned in Westfield District Court this morning. As you can see in the photo, 62 nip bottles were located in the vehicle prior to the tow. We would like to thank the witnesses that reported this and undoubtedly saved someone from getting hurt that night.
