Yesterday Westfield Police arrested Todd and Baoshun Simonds (husband and wife) for allegedly using their massage parlor, Southampton Road Massage & Body Work, as a brothel.

According to the police report,

[Officers] received several complaints from known and unknown witnesses that Baoshun Simonds and the “employees” of the business were performing unwanted sexual acts during or at the end of massages. The majority of the complaints came from men and there was one woman who reported that they went to this business to get a legitimate massage and the “masseuses” touched their genitals.

These complaints prompted police to begin surveilling the massage parlor which is located at 282 Southampton Road in Westfield.

During this surveillance, police observed the Simonds bringing two “employees” with them each day to work at the parlor. These women never left the building without being accompanied by Todd or Baoshun.  When they weren’t working, the women lived at the Simonds’ residence.

Investigators interviewed five men who visited the establishment on different days. The police report states

Each man stated that they had received a sexual massage of their genitals during their massage and that they had chosen this specific massage parlor because they knew that they offered and performed sexual massages.

Officers also interviewed the parlor’s “employees.” These women allegedly told police that they received no payment for their services other than patrons’ tips.

The Simonds were arraigned today in Westfield District Court.

They are charged with (1) trafficking persons for sexual servitude, (2) deriving support from prostitution, and (3) keeping a house of prostitution.

Bail for each defendant was set at $5,000 cash.
