If you are arrested for drunk driving in Massachusetts, police will give you a notice that your license is suspended immediately pursuant to M.G.L. c. 90, Sec. 24(1)(f)(2). This is often referred to as an “imminent threat” suspension.

The suspension lasts up to 30 days. During that time, you will be unable to apply for a hardship license (unless you manage to resolve your case through a 24D disposition beforehand).

For drivers under the age of 21, the immediate license suspension can be between 180 days and one year. See M.G.L. c. 90, Section 24P.
