On June 9 (Sunday) Michael O’Driscoll, from Cork City, Ireland, went on a tour of Plymouth Harbor with a fellow Irishman. It was the day before Michael’s 40th birthday and, according to police, the two men were celebrating with copious amounts of alcohol.
After the harbor cruise, they continued the celebration at New World Tavern in Plymouth before returning to Michael’s residence.
Police claim that around 1am Michael’s friend jokingly referred to him as “a Nacker.” This didn’t go over well with Michael and the two men went at it.
In the words of the alleged victim, Michael “took the fight to another level.”
According to the police report,
[The friend] recalls Michael placing his mouth and teeth on his left ear. [The friend] now screamed out loud “Don’t you fucking bite my ear off, don’t fucking bite my ear off.”
Despite the man’s pleas, Michael allegedly bit down with such force that a chuck of man’s earlobe (approximately 2 inches long) came off completely.
When police arrived, the alleged victim was being treated by EMTs. The severed earlobe was at his side in a measuring cup filled with ice and water.
Michael was arraigned in Plymouth District Court on Monday. His bail was set at $2,500 and he was ordered to stay 100 yards away from his former friend. He faces charges for assault and battery causing serious bodily injury and mayhem.
