Gareth Flanagan–former IT director at New England School of Law and amateur band member of “Sloth Machine”–was arraigned today in Suffolk Superior Court for allegedly buying $68,000 worth of music equipment with the school’s amazon account.
According to court documents the law school gave Gareth authority to make work-related purchases on amazon up to $5,000. Between 2020 and 2022, Gareth allegedly used the account to purchase items that were clearly music related and had no function for the law school.
The unauthorized spending was discovered after the school hired an external auditor to review such spending.
When the law school’s directors confronted Gareth about the purchases, he allegedly claimed that he bought the items simply to test them out. The school managed to returns some of the goods. But it’s unclear what will be done with the remaining music gear.
Gareth is charged with three felony counts of larceny over $1,200. His bail was set at $1,000 and he was ordered to stay away from New England School of Law.
