New data published by the Administrative Office of U.S. Courts show a 22.7% spike in Massachusetts bankruptcies in 2024.
From September 2023 to September 2024 a total of 4,534 bankruptcy cases were initiated in the Baystate. That’s a year-over-year increase of 839 cases.
Types of filings were as follows:
- 2,806 chapter 7 filings
- 94 chapter 11 filings
- 1,632 chapter 13 filings.
Nationwide bankruptcies rose 16,2% with the sharpest spike (33.5 percent) seen in business filings.
