We all know that the price of groceries is exorbitant.  Here’s a story that confirms it.

According to a press release from the Plymouth County District Attorney’s Office, a Taunton woman managed to “steal” nearly $27,000 in “product discounts” by using fake coupons at Stop & Shop.

Jacqueline White, 42, pleaded guilty yesterday to larceny by false pretense under a single scheme.  Her crime?  Buying groceries at Stop & Shop between March and June 2023 using “counterfeit coupons.”

She allegedly perpetrated the scheme in Quincy, Weymouth, Raynham, Plainville, Whitman, Abington, Pembroke, Norwell, Hingham, North Dartmouth, New Bedford, Sandwich, and Brockton.  The exact amount of stolen discounts was $26,547.

It’s unclear what items she purchased or where the products went after she bought them.

In consideration of her plea, a superior court judge placed Jacqueline on probation for three years with a 2.5 year suspended jail sentence.
