
On January 22, Winthrop police arrested 22-year-old Joseph Clemens after he allegedly crashed into a police cruiser while intoxicated.
According to a press release from the Winthrop police
On Wednesday, Jan. 22, at about 5:44 p.m., a Winthrop Police Officer, operating in a marked police cruiser was traveling southeast on Veteran’s Road and was struck head-on by a Ram 1500 pickup truck traveling northwest. An initial investigation determined that the pickup truck had completely crossed the marked center lines and was driving on the wrong side of the road at the time of the crash.
The officer went to the hospital following the crash. EMTs evaluated Clemens who suffered no injuries.
Police charged Clemens with (1) Operating Under the Influence of Liquor (2) Marked Lanes Violation (3) Speeding (4) Negligent Operation of a Motor Vehicle, and (5) Possession of Open Containers of Alcohol in a Motor Vehicle.
He was arraigned in East Boston District Court on January 23.
