
On June 21, 2024, Minh-Thi Nguyen–a doctoral candidate in MIT’s physic’s program–rode her bicycle through the intersection of Hampshire Street and Portland Street in Cambridge. As she entered the intersection a commercial truck travelling in the same direction on Hampshire Street turned right onto Portland. The truck allegedly drove over Nguyen. The accident happened around 8:45 a,m, First responders brought Nguyen to Massachusetts General Hospital where she was pronounced dead at 9:25 a.m.
Yesterday Nguyen’s estate, administered by her father, filed a wrongful death lawsuit against the truck driver and the New Hampshire company employing him, Charles B. Blouin, Inc. The lawsuit was filed in Middlesex County Superior Court. The estate seeks $28,000 in hospital expenses and a whopping $30,000,000 for the alleged wrongful death.
