A federal judge sentenced John Murphy, 51, of Hanson, to one year and one day in prison with the last three months to be served in community confinement. His prison sentenced will be followed by three years of supervised release.
For the case’s details, see my earlier posts Hanson Man Indicted for Dogfighting Venture and Hanson Man Pleads Guilty to Dogfighting Charges.)
According to U.S. Attorney Leah B. Foley, “Mr. Murphy brutalized defenseless animals for profit and sport – training them to fight, suffer and die for his own financial gain. His actions were not only illegal but deeply disturbing.”
