In 2024 Massachusetts State Trooper Zachariah Kent was accused of stealing golf balls from Target stores in Worcester County. He allegedly used the “skip scan” method of shoplifting (pretending to pay at the self-checkout) at least 23 times last year. (See my post State Trooper Accused of Stealing Golf Balls from Target Stores in Worcester and Millbury.)

Yesterday Kent resolved his case with a tender of plea. He admitted that there were facts sufficient for a guilty findings on two charges: (1) shoplifting by asportation and (2) larceny under $1,200 by single scheme.

In exchange for the plea, Kent’s case was continued without a finding. He received six months of probation. The court also ordered him to stay away from Target stores and to pay a total of $1,052 in restitution. Kent made over $118,000 in 2024 according to state records.
