Today Haley A. MacIntyre, a 24-year-old Emerson College student, was arraigned in Boston Municipal Court (Central).
The complaint against MacIntyre contains four counts:
- inciting a riot (a felony);
- attempt to commit a crime;
- assault and battery on a police officer;
- interference with a police officer.
The charges stem from MacIntyre’s alleged conduct at the pro-Palestine rally on the Boston Commons earlier this week.
Violence against the police led to four officers being injured. One of the officers suffered a badly broken nose, requiring reconstructive surgery.
Prosecutors claim that police body worn cameras show MacIntyre blocking one of the roads near the state house.
As a cruiser attempted to pass MacIntyre, she allegedly kicked its door.
This prompted the officer to get out of the cruiser, allegedly leading to a physical confrontation between police and rioters.
The Boston Globe reports that during today’s arraignment, the prosecutor told the judge,
It’s believed at this time, the rioter who kicked the cruiser door and initiated the violent incident is suspect, Haley MacIntyre. That’s the defendant before you. She was one of the first protesters to attempt to block that officer in trouble call.
The judge set bail at $7,500 cash. Unless or until she can pay her bail, MacIntyre will be held at the Suffolk County Jail. Her next hearing is scheduled for October 31.
