Around 9:30 p.m. on Christmas night, police received a report that someone was driving the wrong way on I-95 in Newburyport.
State troopers responded and allegedly observed a black Subaru sedan speeding south on the northbound side of the highway.
Troopers claim that the driver refused to immediately pull over when they activated their sirens.
Instead, the car allegedly traveled nearly three miles–exiting onto Scotland Road and again proceeding in the wrong lane.
According to the state police,
The Subaru traveled erratically, switched lanes, drove in the breakdown lane, and on the wrong side of the road.
By this point officers from Newburyport, West Newbury, and Groveland had also responded to the scene.
Officials say that the car with driven by Paulius Balciunas, 36, of Worcester.
Balciunas was arraigned today in Newburyport District Court.
He’s charged with:
- OUI-drugs,
- negligent operation of a motor vehicle,
- resisting arrest,
- failing to stop for police,
- breakdown lane violation,
- marked lanes, violation,
- speeding, and
- failing to yield.
The judge set bail at $5,000.
Additionally, the court order Balciunas to refrain from drugs and alcohol during the pendency of his case and to submit to random testing.
His next court date is January 14.
