Michael Lara, former director of the Watertown Housing Authority (WHA), has agreed to plead guilty to wire fraud after allegedly using WHA funds to remodel his home bathroom.
According to the U.S. District Attorney’s Office, Lara used the WHA credit card to purchase approximately $6,200 worth of material from Home Depot and Moniques Bath Showroom.
Lara apparently spared no expense–dropping $1,639 on a vanity/mirror, $443 on a show head, and $323 on a faucet.
Lara entered into a Deferred Prosecution Agreement (DPA). Under the agreement, Lara will repay the funds, resign from his WHA job, and refrain from committing any new crimes for the next six months.
At least his new bathroom looks good!
