Massachusetts State Trooper James Doran, 27, was arraigned in Lowell District Court yesterday. He’s charged with operating under the influence of alcohol and having open alcohol containers in his car while driving.
Doran allegedly crashed his car into another driver around 11 pm on Sunday. The accident occurred on Main Street in Tewksbury close to Clark Road.
According to the Tewksbury police, Doran admitted to driving the car and to “having a few drinks” earlier that night. While speaking with Doran, police supposedly detected the usual “indicia of alcohol“: blood-shot eyes, slurred speech and the order of alcohol. Additionally, they claim that an open can of bud light and a half-empty bottle of vodka were in Doran’s car.
Doran refused the field sobriety test and the breath test. For refusing the breath test, his license was suspended for 180 days.
He had just graduated from the state police academy on October 6. He has been assigned to the Leominster barracks. However, cbs.com reports that Doran is now on administrative leave with pay.
His next court date is December 6.
