
Last month Governor Maura Healey signedĀ H.5620, entitled āAn Act promoting rule of law, oversight, trust and equal constitutional treatment.ā
Known as the PROTECT Act, the 43-pages of new legislation seeks to thwart the enforcement of federal immigration law by (1) banning most ICE arrests at state courthouses and (2) limiting cooperation between Massachusetts police agencies and ICE.
The immigration unit of Committee for Public Counsel Services (CPCS)–the state’s public defense agency–has released a pamphlet summarizing the new law.
